Finally tried poutine at La Banquise - worth the hype!

Quick question - did you have to book ahead or just walk in?

So I've been in Montreal for a few months now and everyone kept telling me I HAD to try La Banquise. Finally went last night around 11pm (apparently that's peak poutine time lol).

Got the classic with gravy and cheese curds. Honestly? The cheese curds were perfectly squeaky and the gravy was just right - not too salty. My friend got the "T-Rex" with extra meat and it was massive.

The place was packed even at that hour. Definitely understand why locals love it. Next time I want to try their breakfast poutine with eggs.

Anyone have other Montreal food recommendations?

La Banquise is definitely a Montreal institution! I have been there a few times and it never disappoints. If you are looking for other food spots, check out Schwartz's Deli for smoked meat sandwiches - it is an experience. Also, St-Viateur Bagel is worth a visit, especially fresh in the morning. Montreal has such great food culture!
