Visited Haeinsa Temple in the mountains of South Korea and the Tripitaka Koreana - 80000 wooden printing blocks carved in the 13th century - is one of the most extraordinary things I have seen in Asia. The storage halls were designed 800 years ago with such precise ventilation that the blocks have never needed restoration. The temple itself is beautiful, set in a mountain forest, and the monks going about their daily routines add to the atmosphere. This is the Korea that exists beyond Seoul.
