There is a great little calligraphy studio near the Lama Temple area that does beginner workshops every Saturday morning. Really relaxed atmosphere and the teacher speaks some English too. If you are looking for something more formal, the Confucius Institute at BLCU runs semester-long courses but those require more commitment.
